NEWS ••• July 19, 2013
There is just over a week until our BIG day! Are you ready? The planning team is getting super excited to see 180+ swimmers and 30+ paddlers in the water next Saturday! Also worth noting: we have raised A LOT of money! The total is updated daily at krossinkeuka.org.
10 Things Participants NEED to Know:
#1) We will utilize a text messaging alert system to let you know if we have postponed the event, or incase of emergency. In order to partake in this system, you must enter your cell phone number here: http://eepurl.com/v37i5 (click that link, enter the info it asks you for). You should receive a confirmation text message. And sometime next week, you should also receive a test message from the number 315 707 4013. You can also text that number if you have a problem or question regarding the event. Meredith will get back to you ASAP. Note #1: We will not text you except to test the system, or notify you of an emergency, delay, postponement, etc. In other words, we will not spam you with text messages. Note #2: 315 707 4013 is not a personal cell number, it's the number the messaging system has assigned to Krossin' Keuka.
#2) In order to be considered for fundraising prizes (we have added a BUNCH to our list - see below), your sponsorship money and registration needs to be into the Keuka Comfort Care Home by Monday, July 22nd. We will take your money after that date, of course (keep fundraising!) - but in order to have enough time to county and calculate for prizes, we need that lead time.
#3) Swimmers: Friday night check in: from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, July 26th, you can come to Hegeman Hall at Keuka College and drop off your sponsorships (or pay your registration), get your Pod Assignment, and get your T-shirt. This is importantespecially if you are new to the swim. To get answers to questions and get acquainted with the event - Friday night is the time for that. Saturday is go time.
#4) Please remind your family and friends that spectating the event from their boat is not acceptable. Any non-event-related watercraft in the vicinity of Krossin' Keuka during the event will be asked to remove themselves immediately. The Yates County Marine Patrol will issue tickets as necessary (and they have before!). This is for the safety of the swimmers and paddlers.
#5) Saturday Morning - Swimmers need to arrive by 6:45 on Saturday Morning. Swimmers will be in the water by 7am. Don't miss your boat! If you did not attend Friday night registration, we advise you to come at 6:30 to make sure you have your pod assignment and get your T-shirt.
#6) Paddlers do need to attend a safety briefing before the event. Please plan on attending the Friday night meeting at 7pm on the beach, and be ready to paddle at6:45am Saturday morning. If you can not attend the Friday meeting, you must be on the beach at 6:15 Saturday Morning for a Safety meeting. Please remember - you are part of a very important safety team.
#7) We have over 160 people registered, which is more than we have ever had at this point. We will be cutting off at 200 - so if you know people who have not registered, please encourage them to do so ASAP.
#8) Facebook contest: What is your most creative way of soliciting sponsorships? Share them on our Facebook post and the committee will pick a winner (based on the MOST creative!) next Tuesday! Prize TBD. Click here.
#9) Rooms are no longer available.
may still be available at Keuka College: If you need a place to stay on Friday Night (Saturday night not available), you can rent a room from Keuka College. See the Accommodations Page .
#10) This is a really fun event, for a really great cause - Keuka Comfort Care Home. KCCH provides a facility and staff to ensure compassionate care in a peaceful, home-like environment for our community's terminally ill residents and their families, at no cost to these patients or families. KCCH is an extremely valuable asset to our community and the quality of care at KCCH has been experienced by many.
